MEET THE APOSTLES – THOMAS AND THADEUS

Presented by Marty Redding
Marty Redding will continue our study of the Twelve Apostles as we learn about Thomas and Thadeus. Thomas was a twin and is described in John as inquisitive, doubtful, courageous and faithful. He is an example of how Jesus can overcome our doubts and lead us to faithfulness. Thadeus was the son of James and a Zealot. He was a patriot who was passionate and willing to sacrifice for others. He shows us how following Jesus may require a change in political views. Come and learn what these two apostles teach us about following Jesus.

WORSHIP SERVICE WITH LOVE FEAST

Presented by Reverend Martha B. Wagley

Come as we worship together and enjoy a Love Feast recalling the meals Jesus shared with his disciples during his ministry. Martha will discuss the history of this experience and how it differs from Holy Communion. The Love Feast started with the Moravians in Germany and became part of the Methodist meetings in Great Britain and early Methodism in America. John Wesley recalls in his journal his first experience in a Moravian Love Feast, “After evening prayers, we joined with the Germans in one of their love-feasts beginning and ending with thanksgiving and prayer. . .” The Love Feast offers us time to consider what God is doing in our lives and our hope and trust of God in the future. Join us as we share this special time together.

MEET THE APOSTLES – MATTHEW AND JAMES, BROTHER OF JOHN

Marty Redding will continue our study of the Twelve Apostles as we learn about Matthew and James, brother of John. Matthew was a dishonest tax collector driven by greed until Jesus chose him as a disciple. On the day that Jesus called him he threw a farewell feast and invited all his friends to meet Jesus. From that time forward instead of collecting taxes he collected souls for Christ. James was the brother of John and was part of the “circle of honor” with Peter and John. James was an eyewitness to the Transfiguration. He was a fisherman, known as a ruffian with a temper. Come and discuss how Matthew, a corrupt tax collector, and James, a fisherman and ruffian, became apostles and served Jesus among the Twelve.
